Wacky Woman in Wheelchair Wants Words

I was on MySpace last week and tracked down a couple of girls that I went to middle school with. I haven't talked to any of them in years, and was happy to find all 3 of the people that I was looking for. I started a conversation with one of them and found that she has become paralyzed from the chest down due to an illness. I read her email and was kind of shocked. I had no idea that this had happened, and was going to think on it for a bit before I responded as I didn't want to come across sounding like an ass. Well, because I didn't respond immediately and had been onto MySpace, (You can see when the person has last logged in) she automatically assumed that I didn't want to talk to her because she is in a wheelchair. She sent me a really nasty email calling me selfish and small minded, and letting me know how much better her life is than mine and that I should pull my head out of my ass and realize that the world doesn't revolve around me. Hmmph! I kindly responded back letting her know that in my life, my world does revolve around me and my family and that they come before my MySpace "friends" anyday. To me it seems that she is bitter because she is in a wheelchair (which is completely understandable) and automatically assumes that everyone is talking about her or thinks less of her. This whole exchange has really weighed heavy on me. I try to treat everyone the way that I would want to be treated and I feel like I wasn't given the chance to be me in this situation. I was immediately put into defensive mode because of what was said.
